Smooth Sailing in Space with IKAROS
Quick, name a space agency other then NASA. Most likely your answer wasn't JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency). Not a lot people know about JAXA, but get used to the name if you want to sail in space. JAXA is launching worlds first space sailing vehicle/boat powered by sun particles and a photon propulsion engine in May 18. Here is how JAXA describes it: "A Solar Sail gathers sunlight as propulsion by means of a large membrane while a Solar “Power” Sail gets electricity from thin film solar cells on the membrane in addition to acceleration by solar radiation.
